Not to the woodland clippings in the square of the Doctor Zubía

Of a time to this part the center of the city has been losing part of the most singular woodland and of major freightage that it had supported till now. The squares and green spaces of the center are conceived like areas semiopened where the trees play a very secondary role, of mere ornaments, which are replaced in successive reshapings. These places are more determined to that any type of event could be realized in them during the whole year, which to provide a green space in the center.

In this process years ago already lost 3 cedars that were accompanying the one that now remains a recluse in the square of the Market. No municipal corporation has worried about returning that image of the big cedars along with the cathedral of the Redonda and they seem that they hope that the last one should die to clear well the square for fairs, stands and activities of the most mixed.

Nobody restored the impressive cedar of the Lebanon that died in the works of the Spur not also, instead of it there was placed a sculpture that well might have occupied any other space.

The last spaces reshapings in the center we already know well how they finish, a few trees lose all hope straight and others stay dry months later after the absence of care with which the works are attacked. Everything seems to import little, so then it hides with numbers of new planted trees that like much they will have another 10 or 15 years until a new reshaping starts them again. The result is a center with decorative woodland of scarce freightages and with little environmental or hereditary interest.

In case of the square of Dr. Zubía it is a question of one of few places of the center of Logronio where it raises a small migrating owl, the tawny owl. There is greedy night that feeds on insects, can be listened here in the way of the city between April and September and occupies the square precisely because it is one of the few ones that still supports certain woodland with entity. It talks each other of a luxury to be provided with a species like that to scarce meters of our houses and that although every time it has it more difficult for the disappearance of the woodland of major freightage.

Some years ago the square already suffered an important clipping, in both sidewalks of the street Duchess of La Victoria all the trees were felled. In that occasion it was said that it was necessary to remove some trees that were in the bad state and that would be restored immediately, any it can consult the newspaper archives of the epoch.

Everything what they removed neither was in the bad state, only one tree nor was restored, during a time the basins stayed opened to cheat the citizens and when everything happened they closed with the same paving of the perimeter of the square.

Anyone can verify it nowadays, there there are already not the trees that existed but the sealed basins are foreseen and along with them a line of parked cars that then were not and that, those yes, they do not seem to bother anybody.

Sadly we verify that from the town hall, there neither was then, there is not even now, interest to support the patrimony that supposes the woodland of the square of Dr. Zubía. A woodland capable of giving shelter to a species as singular as the tawny owl, which against wind and tide continues there, although perhaps not in a lot of time. That's why before the announcement of the municipal team of opening skylights in the square, we demonstrate very clearly, Ecologistas in Action will not allow one more clipping in the woodland of the Square of Dr. Zubía.
